Community dialogue sparks social cohesion

Social cohesion firmly on the agenda

ANTI-racism was one of the key topics on the ‘Nation Building and Social Cohesion Community Conversation’ programme hosted by the Department of Arts & Culture (DAC) on Tuesday morning.

The well attended workshop, part of a national roadshow, held at the City of uMhlathuze council chambers saw groups share ideas and debate viewpoints on a number of important topics.

These included the roles of race, language, gender, the economy, family values and crime and violence.

Not only did delegates seek to identify causes of disunity, they also sought answers and assigned responsibility for the resolving of problems.

Incorrect perceptions, largely based on ignorance of other cultures, was deemed to be behind many divisive and emotive issues.
