Religious institutions receive ownership deeds

Richards Bay Sai Centre and the Divine Life Society received their official ownership documents.

THE allocation of title deeds to residents in Aquadene and Brackenham through the government’s Enhanced Extended Discount Benefit Scheme (EEDBS) is almost complete, with only a dozen deeds left to be finalised.

This was announced during the title deeds handover at the Department of Human Settlements office in Brackenham on Monday, where two religious organisations, Richards Bay Sai Centre and the Divine Life Society received their official ownership documents.

To date 1838 properties have been transferred in both suburbs with approved funding from the Department of Human Settlements allowing government stock to be transferred from the municipality to beneficiaries.

The EEDBS allows for people who have rented their homes for a number of years to take ownership of their houses, some having rented their houses for 30 years.

Department of Human Settlements representative – Leslie Joseph said these religious organisations have waited for 25 years to have their ownership process finalised.

‘These sites, both in Filigree Loop street were allocated in the early nineties.

‘There is only one religious site and a few households left to finalise and we are urging all those residents awaiting their transfers to visit our office,’ said Joseph.

Meanwhile one of the founding member’s of the Divine Life Society, Dorry Maary said he was happy to receive the title deeds on behalf of the congregation.

‘We would like to thank our Gurudeva Swami Sivananda and Swami Sahajananda, Rajen Reddy, Jimmy Maary and the Ramdani family for their support.’
