CONSTRUCTION work at an Alton business premises had to be halted last week when a massive pipe burst in Bauxite Bay flooded the site and saw hundreds of litres of clean water literally go down the drain.
According to businesswoman Sue Ramlucken, building work at her site has suffered numerous delays over the past two months owing to ongoing burst pipes in the area.
On Wednesday afternoon, Ramlucken reported the burst pipe to the municipality at about 2pm and officials arrived after 4pm to address the problem.
With the current water crisis, Ramlucken said it was sad to see so much water going to waste when some residents have heeded the call to help save water.
‘Throughout the two hours I made several follow-up calls to the municipality to reiterate the severity of the situation and that many litres of water was going to waste.
‘We are experiencing a drought and I believe these bursts should be dealt with urgently.
‘As residents we are trying to do our part to save water and report the leaks immediately, but response is slow.
‘There have been at least five incidents in the last two months at this specific spot and every time this happens my employees have to stop work at the building site.
‘I have suffered so much unnecessary expenditure and delays caused by this burst pipe,’ said Ramlucken.
