DESPITE losing more than 30 members who have crossed to the ANC in uThungulu, the National Freedom Party (NFP) remains unshaken.
This bold statement was made by the NFP’s uThungulu Campaign Manager, Khulekani Mthethwa, when addressing a NFP rally last week at Ofasimba Sport Ground in Ward 25 of the uMlalazi Municipality.
He said the exodus of members to the ANC was noted with sadness, but said this will do little to dampen their resolve.
‘We are still a force to be reckoned with. Those who have written our political obituary will have the shock of their lives. We are more than ready to conquer uThungulu and the rest of KZN.
‘Those who doubted us during the 2011 Local Government Elections were left eating humble pie. History is likely to repeat itself again in the forthcoming local government elections. In uThungulu alone we managed to win 27 Councillor seat within a short period of less than 3 months. Moreover, we even have Members of Provincial Legislatures and Members of the National Assembly.
‘We remain united despite rumours that there is no NFP without our President Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi, who has not been active owing to ill health.
‘We can say it loud that the people of uThungulu need the NFP more than ever. This is our time, and we know that we are still a threat to other opposition parties,’ he said.
NFP Provincial Youth Movement Chairperson Njabulo Mlaba said their campaign will be youth-centred.
‘We want to push for more young people to be deployed in municipalities. As Oliver Tambo once said, the country which does not take care of its youth is already dead.’
Mlaba said they were motivated by the return of the party President kaMagwaza-Msibi after her long illness.
