Election registration chaos causes disruption
Election registration interrupted in some places in Zululand over the weekend

THE election registration process took a wrong turn in many areas around Zululand over the weekend.
In the Ntambanana area, the Mvazane Hall was torched by angry community members on Sunday,
Residents were opposed to the hall being used for registration and suggested a nearby store be used instead.
The fiasco delayed registration, however a tent was erected to accommodate potential voters and the process started at 2pm.
According to the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) uThungulu District Regional Supervisor, Stella Dlamini, officials were able to assist all voters before the station closed.
In a separate incident, commotion broke out in the eMatshana area outside Empangeni when the local Induna disrupted the operations.
Reports indicated he forceful entered the voting station and ordered residents to leave.
According to Empangeni police spokesperson, Capt Mbongeni Mdlalose, no case was opened and the misunderstanding was resolved.
Following the incident, the provincial ANC office released a statement expressing their disappointment about the Induna’s behaviour.
‘Traditional leaders are expected to enhance the gains of democracy and not deviate from their responsibilities as leaders of the communities they serve,’ said the ANC Provincial Secretary Super Zuma.
