BATTLING to make ends meet, as are many NGOs and NPOs, LifeLine Zululand was thrilled this week to receive a whopping R50 000 donation from KZN Slots.
The funding is specifically designated for projects such as the renovation of the counselling room, erection of a new shelter for the waiting area and new chairs.
It was a providential chain of events that led to the magnitude of the donation.
Andy Hammond, owner of Andy’s Sports Bar in the Richards Bay CBD, had been awarded an amount of R10 000 for attaining a certain winning target – the money to be distributed through him to any worthy organisation.
He chose LifeLine Zululand, who in turn had to send a detailed application to KZN Slots.
So impressed were they by the proposal and a subsequent visit to the LifeLine Centre, they decided to up the amount significantly.
‘We were truly taken by the professionalism of the proposal and the great work being done, so we had no hesitation in increasing this contribution,’ said KZN Slots Technical Manager, Avinash Balkissoon.
LifeLine Director Michelle Jewlal expressed immense appreciation to Andy and Mary Hammond and the KZN Slots team.
‘We work on an extremely tight budget and this will enable us to do some long-awaited upgrades and improvements that will assist our staff, volunteers and clients with regard to training and counselling.’
