Still walking for a good cause

Mabuyakhulu will leave his home in Mtubatuba on 3 May and expects to arrive in Durban on the 13th.

MTUBATUBA’S anti-rape and child abuse activist Jan Mabuyakhulu is at it again – his annual Mtubatuba to Durban walk is scheduled to begin on 3 May.

While Mabuyakhulu’s walk usually coincides with his arrival in Durban in time for Youth Day in June, he has had to bring it forward a month this year owing to another walk in which he will be participating in June.

Mabuyakhulu will leave his home in Mtubatuba on 3 May and expects to arrive in Durban on the 13th.

He will then spend three days in Durban, visiting various schools in the area identified by Durban Mayor James Nxumalo as the ones likely to benefit most from Mabuyakhulu’s anti-rape and child abuse message.

‘Whenever I go on one of my walks, I always visit schools either on the way or at my destination,’ he said. ‘I take my anti-rape and child abuse message to everyone, but especially the young boys so they can learn what it means to be a real man.’

He raises nothing but awareness during his walks. He raises no funds and does not get paid by any organisation or charity. This means he cannot pay for accommodation along the way and relies on generous Samaritans to help him out with a bed to sleep on and a meal at night.

His route is as follows: 3 May Umfolozi Protea, 4 May KwaMbonambi, 5 May Empangeni, 6 May Mtunzini, 7 May Ginginglovu, 8 May Mandeni, 9 May Stanger, 10 May Ballito, 11 and 12 May Umhlanga. His accommodation in Durban has been arranged by the mayor.

If any people or businesses are willing to sponsor Jan with a night or two of accommodation, or with refreshments, running shoes and anything else appropriate for the walk, his PR manager, Andrea Labuschagne of Labusch Marketing can be contacted on 083 652 4095.
