Grantleigh learner top of the Curro class

Gary Louw was placed in the top 1% nationally in a variety of subjects

TOP of the IEB (Independent Examinations Board) class of 2019, Grantleigh’s Gary Louw was honoured at Curro’s recent matric gala awards held in Johannesburg.

The annual awards honour the Curro group’s top academic achievers across the IEB, NSC (National Senior Certificate) and Cambridge Assessment International examinations.

With his overall average of 94.14%, Louw walked away with the national top award in the IEB category.

With 8 As, Louw scored 99% in both mathematics and visual arts, while he was placed in the top 1% for English home language, life orientation, mathematics, physical sciences and visual arts.

Excelling in both the arts and sciences, Louw is set to study physics and astrophysics at the University of Cape Town this year.

He is also working towards his first solo art exhibition.

Louw’s advice for the class of 2020 is to not be influenced by the negativity of other learners regarding matric, but to rather choose to succeed.

‘Choose to be number one, and with hard work, you will get there,’ he said.
