PICTURES: Hluhluwe farmer’s market draws the crowds

This was the fourth market since lockdown restrictions began to ease

THE lockdown isolation has left Zululanders craving outings and social interaction, and as a result, Saturday’s Hluhluwe farmer’s market attracted the crowds.

Covid-19 protocols such as social distancing, wearing of masks and sanitising were enforced and adhered to by all.

This was the fourth market since lockdown restrictions began to ease, and each time it is held, the market has grown in popularity and size among both the stallholders and market-goers.

From the humble beginning of just one stallholder at the first market, Saturday saw seven stalls selling a variety of homemade and baked items.

Delicious egg and bacon rolls, coffee, baked items from Granny’s Kitchen, jewellery, farm-fresh poultry, eggs and fresh vegetables were on offer, as were household items and other knick knacks.

Visitors from far and wide attended Saturday’s market, and organisers Alec and Tracey Collier look forward to future growth of the event.

Held at Sibayeni Nursery on the R22 just outside Hluhluwe town, the farmer’s market is held on the first Saturday of every month.
