A DRAMATIC high-speed car chase ensued after former City of uMhlathuze mayor Denny Moffatt was robbed of two luxury vehicles in a brazen burglary at his Salt Rock home.

The incident took place at around 3am, when at least two robbers gained access to the well-fortified home over a side wall they had scaled from a neighbouring house under construction – despite the electric fencing above it – by building a ‘ladder’ with cement blocks.

They further managed to evade triggering beams and floodlights, probably by crawling, and entered the house by breaking a window handle. Once inside, they grabbed only a bowl full of keys, which they used to access a Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz GLA, and to disarm alarms.

As they sped off on Salt Rock Road towards the N2, an alert Marshall Security vehicle crew gave chase after noting the suspicious driving.
