Man arrested in connection with 2017 CIT theft in Richards Bay
The former CIT driver stands accused of stealing R2-million in 2017

A FORMER cash-in-transit driver who stands accused of stealing R2-million in 2017 was on Thursday arrested in Empangeni.
The suspect (37) has been on the run since 3 May 2017 when the theft occurred, and was arrested in Empangeni by the Empangeni K9 unit and crime intelligence.

He is expected to appear in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
‘It is alleged that on 3 May 2017, the suspect was driving a cash-in-transit vehicle in Richards Bay.
‘While his crew was busy loading money into an ATM, the suspect vanished with moneybags.
‘The total amount of cash that went missing was R2-million. A case of theft was opened at Richards Bay SAPS.
‘The docket was transferred to the Provincial Organised Crime unit for further investigation,’ said KZN SAPS communications officer Captain Nqobile Gwala.
