Mass arrest of suspects in KZN

POLICE in KZN arrested 2 064 suspects for various crimes in one week.
The suspects were all arrested during operations carried out from Monday, January 17 2022 to January 24.
In a statement released on Wednesday, police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said KZN police were fulfilling their core mandate of serving and protecting the communities without fear or favour.
‘A total of 43 suspects were arrested for murder, 24 for attempted murder, 20 for robberies, 53 for sexual assault and rape, 423 for assault GBH harm, 95 for theft and burglary, 223 for fraud and shoplifting and 467 for drug related crimes.’
‘Police also seized 52 vehicles; some were stolen or robbed from the owners and some were involved in the commission of crime.’
Large quantities of liquor and non-ferrous metal were also confiscated during the operations as well as 107 illegal firearms and 503 rounds of ammunition.
According to Mbele, the suspects appeared in the various courts within the province where some were remanded in custody while others were released on bail.
