UNIZULU retains Best University title

The University of Zululand (UNIZULU) has again been honoured with the title of Best University/College in Zululand.

The University of Zululand (Unizulu) remains Zululanders’ preferred tertiary institution, having gained another consecutive Best College/University recognition in the Best of Zululand Readers’ Choice Awards.

Academics and student life

Offering 252 accredited degrees, diplomas and certificates across its faculties, Unizulu is a comprehensive university known for its commitment to quality education. They play an influential role in developing communities north of the Tugela River at its KwaDlangezwa and Richards Bay campuses.

Each faculty is made up of various department covering a range of study programmes.

Unizulu offers four-year degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering, with other popular courses including law, education, nursing science, agronomy, hydrology, social work, biochemistry, microbiology and sport science, with many more on offer.

The Unizulu Richards Bay campus boasts the Unizulu Science Centre – home to over 130 innovative local and international exhibits – that provides hands-on education to school children in the Zululand region and beyond.

Unizulu’s Recognition

Over the years, the university has won many awards. Among these:

  • The best university within the Historically Disadvantaged Institution programme
  • Six awards at the Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education (MACE) Excellence Awards – top winner among higher education institutions in KZN
  • The National Research Foundation (NRF) Excelleration Award for improved research performance
  • The Standard Bank Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival for their Department of Creative Arts
  • Multiple student awards and achievements, and consecutive Best of Zululand wins in the Best University/College category

For more than six decades, Unizulu has been the launch pad for graduates, many of whom now occupy influential positions in the political, legal and business sectors. It is no wonder they have, yet again, been honoured as the Best University/College in Zululand.
