Grantleigh Schools: A Zululand favourite

Grantleigh Schools celebrates the recognition of their top-notch primary school, high school and boarding school with three coveted Best of Zululand wins.

Grantleigh Schools was honoured with the Best Private Primary School, Best Private High School, and Best Boarding School titles in the 2024/25 Best of Zululand Readers’ Choice Awards.

Grantleigh is an independent school catering for learners from grades RRR to 12. It has humble beginnings – started by Fred and Renette Grant of Mposa in 1997 – but grew rapidly, building and maintaining a fantastic reputation for excellence and well-rounded education. Grantleigh joined the Curro School group as a Curro Select school in 2014.

Grantleigh boasts top sports facilities, including AstroTurf hockey fields and a large swimming pool

Grantleigh maintains class sizes of 25 learners or less to ensure individual attention is given to all. They have modern classrooms and facilities – including art, music and drama classrooms, a well-stocked library, state-of-the-art robotics and science labs, and top-class sports facilities.

Attending Grantleigh

Grantleigh offers an enhanced curriculum with a wider range of subject choices, and follows the CAPS curriculum, with a focus on practical and project-based learning and self-discovery in between the usual tests and assessments. As an IEB school, this approach allows pupils to take their learning beyond the textbook, preparing them well for their Grade 12 exams.

The school sets learners up for success by incorporating project-based learning and self-discovery into their syllabus

The school has its own on-site therapists and remedial teacher, and from Grade 4, homework and academic support classes are offered. Learners can also participate in a variety of sports and cultural activities, including equestrian, chess, choir, drama and dancing.

Learners can participate in a variety of different age-appropriate sports and extra curriculars

Grantleigh offers a variety of extra curriculars, including annual excursions, and academic, sport and cultural clubs and programmes catered to different age groups – such as the various bands and clubs like Esports, science, public speaking, and arts and crafts clubs. A reliable school bus service also covers all of the major towns in the region.

Boarding

The school’s boarding facilities are open for learners from Grade 4 onwards, and provide a home-away-from-home atmosphere. Boarders are cared for in a safe and comfortable living environment, and the full-time boarding staff ensure they build close relationships with each of them, supporting them academically, physically and emotionally.

The facilities boast separate boys’ and girls’ residences, a comfortable learning area, spaces to relax and socialise, laundry and housekeeping services, an on-site nurse, healthy meals, and fun weekend activities.

The boarding facilities are a ‘home-away-from-home’ for learners to thrive in
