City of uMhlathuze residents evacuated due to flooding
No injuries or fatalities have been reported.
A number of residents were evacuated from their homes after Saturday’s disruptive rains which caused flooding and structural damage in and around the City of uMhlathuze.
A total of 21 families were evacuated in Mzwingwenya area in eSikhaleni and housed in a local community hall.

The city’s disaster management team, which has been responding to incidents since the heavy rains began on Friday, said some areas in Empangeni, Mandlazini, Mzingwenya, Mzingazi, Niwe, eSikhaleni, Grantham Park and Richards Bay were badly affected.
The extent of the damage ranged from blocked drains, house flooding, roof damage, massive erosion and structural collapse. Some roads were also damaged.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported.
