Residents urged to remain vigilant amid flood warning

Residents are urged to exercise caution as the inclement weather conditions are expected to continue

Two people are still missing after they were swept away trying to cross a flooded river in Ngwavuma.

This follows heavy rains which battered various parts of the Zululand region over the weekend.

As search and rescue operations continue, KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Bongi Sithole-Moloi warned residents on Monday to exercise caution as the inclement weather conditions are expected to continue.

“Working with social partners, the Provincial Disaster Management Centre is working closely with all municipalities to make sure assessments are done and the right steps are taken to help affected communities,” said Dube-Ncube.

The MEC paid a visit to Danhausser Municipality on Monday morning to assess the damage.

This after two people, Nokubonga Mchunu, 22, and Thulani Mabaso, 52, lost their lives when they were swept away while trying to cross a large body of water.

In Newcastle Ward 25, an infant died after the house was flooded.
