Threats to shut school outside eSikhaleni over ‘corporal punishment’
The school governing body says it has been called several times to Maqhama Primary School to resolve corporal punishment cases

Despite the 1996 banning of corporal punishment, a School Governing Body (SGB) says the practice is still being used at a Madlankala school.
According to SGB chairperson Cebo Buthelezi, they have been called several times to Maqhama Primary School to resolve cases of teachers using corporal punishment to discipline pupils.
“This has led to the poor performance of our learners when they reach high school levels.
“We have received many negative accounts from high schools about learners we produce,” said Buthelezi.
