Bad weather cancels SANDF operation in Richards Bay

Anti-piracy capability demonstration cancelled owing to bad weather

FRIDAY and Saturday’s scheduled SANDF capability demonstration at Naval Island has been cancelled.

This after the SA Weather Service issued a level 2 warning for disruptive rain, widespread thunder showers and potential flooding for northern KZN.

The warning is in place from midday today (Friday) to 10pm.

“Following consultations with relevant authorities, it was determined that the recent spate of bad weather has caused this cancellation,” said the SANDF in a statement.

“The persistent rain had a negative effect on the ground conditions at the Naval Island venue, making it difficult and risky for the spectators to attend.

“The weather forecast for the following few days is also not favourable. The SANDF takes the safety of the general public seriously and would not do anything to jeopardise it.”

The SANDF said it attempted to come up with an alternative date, but was advised that it would be too impractical at such short notice.
