Sulphur spill in Richards Bay

The cause of the spillage is unknown

Rush hour traffic was backed up this morning (Thursday) on the John Ross highway in Richards Bay after a truck carrying sulphur lost its load near the Alton intersection.

The right lane of the Empangeni-bound carriageway was obstructed from shortly after 6.30am for most of the morning as the City of uMhlathuze Fire & Rescue, as well as other authorities carried out the clean-up operation.

The cause of the spillage is unknown, as the truck did not appear to have had an accident.
