Mtubatuba murder accused pupils plead guilty

The two appeared at Mtubatuba Regional Court where the matter was adjourned to 30 March

Two Mfolozi High School pupils who were arrested last year for a fatal stabbing on the school premises have pleaded in the matter.

Bandile Simphiwe Dube (19) today (Thursday) pleaded guilty to culpable homicide, while his co-accused, a 16-year-old minor who cannot be named, pleaded guilty to assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH).

The two appeared at Mtubatuba Regional Court where the matter was adjourned to 30 March for pre-sentencing.

The court is expected to hear a report from a social worker, who would have interviewed all parties, and the social worker would also give a recommendation for a suitable sentence.

The court is also expected to hear from a correctional officer.

The two accused were arrested last year following the fatal stabbing of Khumbulani Mgabhi (18) and his 17-year-old friend who was hospitalised and discharged a few days after the incident.

Khumbulani succumbed to a stab wound in the neck.

It is alleged that the stabbings were the result of suspected bullying after one of the accused allegedly instructed the victims to polish his shoes, which was rejected.
