Glowing skin tarnished by a stressed mind

Here are some tips and tricks to combat stress and improve the condition of your skin

You can run but you cannot hide from stress; it is a dysfunctional friend to most, robbing many of peace of mind.

Stress affects everyone differently; some may suffer from insomnia, depression or anxiety.

But did you know it can, directly and indirectly, affect your skin?

Clere skincare brand manager Su-Marie Annandale said, “When we are under stress, our body releases a hormone called cortisol, which triggers inflammation and accelerates the ageing process of our skin.

“This results in a range of skin issues, including acne, wrinkles, dullness, and conditions like psoriasis and eczema.”

Here are some tips and tricks to combat stress and improve the condition of your skin:

1. Practice relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga and deep breathing to help reduce stress levels

2. Prioritise rest by getting 7 to 8 hours’ sleep each night; a lack of sleep can make skin look tired and dull

3. Exercise promotes blood flow and is also a great stress reliever

4. Food is fuel, so eat a healthy, balanced diet rich in fruit, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins

5. A good skincare routine can revive your skin; use a gentle cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen on a daily basis

6. Seek the help of a professional if your condition gets worse due to stress. They will prescribe a treatment that will help you manage your condition.

“Stress can have a significant impact on our skin so it’s important to manage it the best way we can. By taking care of our mental and physical health, we can maintain healthy and glowing skin,” Annandale concludes.
