SABC refutes car licence social media claims
The SABC said it has not issued any media statement making such public pronouncements regarding licences for car radios

The SABC has publicly distanced itself from a social media post claiming it was introducing a car radio licence.
In an official statement on Monday, the public broadcaster said it would like to alert the public to a fake media statement circulating on various social media platforms, entitled “Introduction of radio licences as part of SABC’s drive to generate revenue”.
“The SABC has not issued any media statement making such public pronouncements regarding licences for car radios,” reads the statement.
The fake statement said: “Over the years, we as the SABC have seen dramatic decline in TV licence revenue due to streaming services like Netflix becoming ever more popular, we as the SABC therefore had to look at new revenue streams.
‘All South Africans who utilise motor vehicles with radios will be required to always carry a car radio licence with them.
“These licenses will cost R401 a year and are required to be renewed annually in order for it be valid.”
