Wet weather on the way

Zululand region getting its rainfall fill

THE SA Weather Service (SAWS) has again issued a yellow level 2 warning for disruptive rain affecting the greater Zululand region.

The warning is in place from 6pm today (Thursday) until 5pm tomorrow, and is set to affect uMhlathuze, uMlalazi and Mandeni.

“Widespread showers and thundershowers are expected along the KZN coast, which may lead to flooding,” said the weather service.

“About 40mm or more of 24 hour rainfall accumulation is expected in coastal areas.”

The weather service said localised flooding of formal/informal settlements, and low-lying roads and bridges is possible.

Other dangers to take into consideration include difficult driving conditions, vehicle accidents on wet roads, and localised damage to mud-based houses.

“Avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankles, protect/relocate animals to higher ground, move valuables inside homes to a safe place above expected flood level, and take caution when driving as potholes could be filled with water, making them less visible.
