WATCH: Richards Bay CBD roads flooded after heavy rains

Disruptive rains cause flooding to some roads in Richards Bay CBD

As forecast by the SA Weather Service (SAWS), the Zululand region has been subjected to fierce thunderstorms and heavy rains since last night, with some roads in the Richards Bay CBD flooding earlier today (Friday).

Notorious for flooding during heavy rainfall, Mark Strasse once again saw high water levels, causing motorists to make their way carefully along the route.

The SAWS yellow level 2 warning for disruptive rains is in place until 6pm today, with residents of the affected areas to be vigilant on the wet roads, and prepare for possible localised flooding.

“Avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankles; protect/relocate animals to higher ground; move valuables inside homes to a safe place above expected flood level, and take caution when driving as potholes could be filled with water, making them less visible,” said SAWS.

Motorists are reminded to increase following distance, switch on headlights and reduce speeds on the wet, potentially waterlogged roads.
