Murder-accused Mtubatuba mother to apply for bail

A woman who was last week arrested after the body of her newborn was found underneath her bed is due back in court for a formal bail application.

She appeared in Manguzi Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of murder and will remain in police custody until her next appearance on Tuesday.

According to police spokesperson Captain Sbusiso Mkhize, after her arrest, the woman (33) was admitted to hospital owing to the medical condition she was in at the time.

“The motive for the killing is still unknown at this stage,” said Mkhize.

SAPS uMkhanyakude district commissioner Major General Mduduzi Shezi commended the community for tipping off the police about the alleged murder, and for the police’s swift response.
