Parkrun Richards Bay has issued a clarion call to all fitness enthusiasts, or even those who simply enjoy a Saturday morning stroll, to join its pool of volunteers.
While hordes of residents flock down to the parkrun start line every Saturday morning, organisers always welcome new volunteers.
“We always welcome volunteers at parkrun; from helping us on the day, to assisting us in keeping our beautiful trail clear and safe for parkrun,” said event director Lauren van den Heuvel.
“Last weekend, our poor parkrunners had to bundu bash through the trail after recent heavy winds.
“We have since added checking and clearing of the route to the regular list for volunteers.”
While not everyone wants to give up their Saturday morning run or walk, the more volunteers who jump on board, the fewer times each will have to sacrifice their exercise.
“We still need our volunteers to ‘make parkrun happen’ on a Saturday morning, but bring that family member for an outing and let them volunteer while you run,” suggested Van den Heuvel.
“The youngest volunteer we have had is nine years old and our oldest is 89 – parkrun can be a fun outing for the whole family!”
