WATCH: Major storm damage in Gingindlovu

Homes and vehicles were flooded, with locals reporting rivers running through their yards

Gingindlovu residents are counting the cost of massive storm damage after numerous homes were flooded on Monday night.

Heavy rains inland poured a deluge over the area, with residents forced to salvage what they could in the dead of night.

Homes and vehicles were flooded, with locals reporting rivers running through their yards and into their homes.

One resident, Sandra Perumal, said when she went outside to reverse her car to protect it from the heavy rains, the river raging through her yard prevented her from going back inside her house.

“The water was just below the window level of my home,” said Perumal.

Another resident, Osman Hassan, said the flood waters were above the vegetable rack in his kitchen and destroyed his son’s back-to-school supplies.
