High temperatures across the Zululand region have prompted a series of warnings as conditions are set to persist until Sunday.
The hot weather even led to some schools in Richards Bay and surrounding areas abandoning all sporting and after-school activities owing to the extreme heat.
Weather services have issued warnings about these skyrocketing temperatures, including info from Afriforum.
Provinces affected by heatwave conditions are the Free State, North West, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and KZN.
Heatwaves increase the risk of wildfires, as seen across the Western Cape.
Furthermore, these extremely hot conditions also pose a danger to the health and well-being of people, especially the elderly and children.
Tips to guard against heatstroke
1. Never leave children or pets in vehicles
2. Wear light coloured, cotton clothing
3. Take a cold shower or bath to reduce your body temperature
4. Drink plenty of water and electrolytes often
5. Avoid exercise or work in the midday heat
