Wall jumpers an ongoing threat as opportunistic crime increases
Zululanders urged to take extra precautions in securing the outsides of their premises

Opportunistic crime remains a challenge as criminals invade residential properties by jumping over fences and palisade walls, fleeing with items left outside houses.
There has been a noticeable increase in ‘wall jumpers’ throughout the district and, despite efforts to discourage residents from leaving valuables outside, the problem persists.
Targeting outdoor garden furniture, braai equipment, bicycles, garden tools and even freezers left outside under patios and lapas, perpetrators are in and out of properties in minutes with their ill-gotten gains.
Police encourage residents to not leave any valuables outdoors and to take precautions to make wall jumping difficult.
Security beams around the property should also be tested and activated on a regular basis.
King Cetshwayo Cluster police spokesperson Captain Siyanda Shangase urges residents to always ensure safety measures are activated and to never leave any valuables outside, day or night.
”Do not leave anything outside, in the yard or even near an open window that will be a temptation for intruders,” he said.
”Pay attention when any of the neighbours’ alarms go off or their dogs bark aggressively, and take note of any suspicious persons entering your property.
”If you have been a victim of crime, report it to your nearest police station and alert your CPF so they are aware of the crime trend in your area, ”he said.
