Richards Bay residents feel the winter chill

With one Richards Bay suburb dropping to around 3 degrees Celsius, we compare it with 2023's July temperatures

IT’S not quite snow in Nkandla, as was recorded one previous winter, but Richards Bay residents woke up to an icy chill on Tuesday morning as temperatures plummeted to single figures.

According to data recorded by the Richards Bay Clean Air Association’s (RBCAA) monitoring stations, Birdswood residents were most affected, with temperatures dipping to around 3 degrees Celsius at 6.30am.

At the same time, eSikhaleni residents had it warmest, higher than 12 degrees C, while Brackenham was second coldest, at about 5.5 degrees, with the Harbour West station recording in the region of 6 degrees.

This morning’s Birdswood temperature is a full 6 degree drop compared with this day last year overall, as 2023’s lowest recorded temperature on 9 July was a fraction below 9 degrees C at 6pm.

This was recorded at the RBCAA’s Harbour West monitoring station.

During that week, Birdswood’s coldest temperature was on 13 July and was 9 degrees, recorded at 6am.
