16 injured in Richards Bay highway collision

A child and a seven-months pregnant woman were among the patients injured in the crash

Emergency services were kept busy on Saturday night in two separate accidents on the John Ross highway.

The first occurred on the B10 eSikhaleni road.

While details are sketchy, it is believed two vehicles were involved.

On the John Ross Empangeni-bound carriageway, 16 people, including a child and a seven-months pregnant woman, were injured when a bakkie and light delivery vehicle collided just before 7pm.

Mounties EMS, uMhlathuze Fire & Rescue, traffic police and SAPS all attended the accident, which led to a partial closure of the highway for some time.

Injuries sustained ranged from moderate to severe but not critical.

Mounties EMS paramedics treated the injured before transporting them to hospital for further medical care.

The roadway was cleared at around 9pm.
