Fire, strong wind warnings issued for parts of KZN
Strong winds predicted for parts of KZN, promoting fire warnings
Disaster management teams across KwaZulu-Natal have been placed on high alert due to the recent high fire danger warning issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS).
Adhering to the prediction made by the weather service, Cogta MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi has called for teams to be ready to tackle any potential blazes.
The warning is valid for today (Sunday) until 10pm, for most parts of the province.

Potential impacts include reduced visibility, damage to property and vegetation, air and water pollution, and in extreme cases, loss of human or animal life.
Instructions to the Public:
• Do not make fires in open areas or leave fires unattended.
• Do not discard cigarette butts out of car windows or in open fields.
• Avoid throwing bottles in the veld as they can magnify the sun’s rays and ignite fires.
• Prepare and maintain firebreaks in a controlled manner.
• In case of a large fire, report it immediately and move away to allow professionals to handle it.
In addition, SAWS has issued a level two warning for damaging south-westerly winds expected along the KZN coast between Port Edward and Kosi Bay.
Residents are urged to take precautions as the strong winds could result in disruptions on the roads due to crosswinds; difficult navigation for small vessels, and damage to temporary structures along the coastline, while coastal routes and communities may be affected by spray.
A cold front is predicted to pass over southern KZN on Monday with a high ridging behind it.
Motorists should be on high alert for crosswinds and stronger winds in exposed areas.
