Murder investigation launched after body recovered under bridge

A murder case has been opened following the discovery of a body under a bridge in the Sundumbili area on Monday.

Empangeni SAPS, K9 unit and IPSS Search & Rescue responded to the area to assist with the recovery of the as yet unidentified body after it was spotted in the Tugela River.

Upon arrival, search and rescue members set up a rope system, hoisting the body in a Stokes basket onto the bridge.

Inspections of the body revealed injuries that led police to believe the man was murdered and thrown off the bridge.
