Department of Home Affairs urges parents to register children within 30 days of birth

Home Affairs Deputy Minister Njabulo Nzuza calls on parents to register their children within 30 days of birth to avoid ‘unnecessary’ scrutiny, in the interest of safeguarding the country.

Nzuza was speaking during the department’s Late Registration of Birth outreach programme at Empangeni Civic Centre today (Tuesday).

He said, among the birth certificate recipients today are people who have been without identity for a long time, hindering them from accessing basic government services.

“An identity document is an enabler, it allows you to open accounts and gives you access to social services,” said Nzuza.
