Drugs valued at R200k seized in festive season crime clampdown
Illegal immigrants, suspected drug dealers arrested in multi-disciplinary roadblock
The festive season clampdown on crime got off with a bang in King Cetshwayo District on Friday when numerous arrests were made during a high density roadblock held in eSikhaleni and Mtunzini.
Four suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs after being caught in possession of illicit substances with an estimated street value of R200 000.
Some 2 050 capsules of drugs were seized, as were 1 300 rock of cocaine and six cellphones.
One person was nabbed for fraud, while a further 25 illegal immigrants were arrested.Additionally, there were eight infringements of the National Road Traffic Act; two motor vehicles were recovered; 220 people and 125 vehicles were searched.
At Friday morning’s launch of the festive season roadblock and crime clampdown, which involved the SAPS together with CPFs and other anti-crime structures, the police warned all criminals and would-be flouters of the law that there would be no place to hide these holidays.
From drug peddlers to ATM bombers, hijackers and other crimes, the police will be watching closely.
“It’s a critical time and working together will yield good results. We urge residents to report criminal activities, and work with the police and our structures to ensure we eliminate crime in our district,” said King Cetshwayo CPF chairperson Zandile Ncube.
