Traditional healer and sons arrested
Mtubatuba trio charged with kidnapping, assault GBH, with father facing added murder charge

A traditional healer and his two sons were arrested last weekend and appeared in the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court last Monday where they were remanded in custody.
The accused are due back in court on Tuesday, 21 January for a formal bail application.
Khulekani Ngubane (48), Sihle Zungu (24) and Mduduzi Ngubane (21) were arrested in connection with the kidnapping, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and murder of Thandazani Mngomezulu (28).

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said it was reported that Mngomezulu was under the influence of alcohol when he made a pass at the traditional healer’s girlfriend, and allegedly uttered unkind words about Khulekani.
The trio reportedly retaliated on 15 December 2024.
“Ngubane took his two sons and went to fetch Mngomezulu from his home at Qwakini area in Mtubatuba. The three reportedly took Mngomezulu to their home with force, where they tied him against a tree and the father assaulted him,” said Netshiunda.
“Mngomezulu was rescued by community members who pleaded with the traditional healer that the victim had had enough. After spending several days in hospital in Empangeni, Mngomezulu succumbed to his severe injuries,” he said.
Netshiunda said after receiving the doctor’s report, police changed the initial case of assault GBH to murder, and the suspects were arrested. The father is facing charges of murder, kidnapping and assault GBH, whereas his sons were charged with kidnapping and assault GBH.
