Illicit alcohol seized in police operation

Two men arrested for dealing in illicit liquor during multi-disciplinary police act

A joint operation between the KZN Provincial Counterfeit, Contraband and Illicit Goods unit and uMhlali SAPS saw illicit liquor to the value of R100 000 confiscated.

The operation was conducted on Friday and targeted liquor outlets and distribution centres dealing in illicit alcohol.

According to Ilembe Cluster police spokesperson Captain Alex Thomson, two male suspects aged between 49 and 31 were caught and fined for sales of the illicit liquor.

“During the operation, police seized about 580 000 bottles of liquor with various brandings,” he said.
