Matric pupil confesses to killing his granddad

A Grade 12 pupil has been arrested after confessing to killing his grandfather

Police arrested a Grade 12 pupil at school last week for the murder of his grandfather (48).

The suspect confessed to the shooting and handed over the firearm used in the killing.

iLembe Police Cluster spokesperson, Captain Alex Thomson said the suspect appeared at Nyoni Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and was remanded in police custody.

“A 48-year-old man informed his family last year November that he was going out hunting, but he did not return home.

“His decomposing body was found by community members in a bamboo field in the Sundumbili area on 13 November.

“A murder case was registered at Sundumbili SAPS for investigation. Last week, police received a tip-off that the suspect had been linked to the murder case.

“After a thorough investigation by Sundumbili SAPS together with iLembe District Police Tracing Team, they positively linked the suspect to the murder case and he was arrested at his school,” said Thomson.

He added that a Beretta firearm, a homemade firearm, and one live round of ammunition were recovered.
