Athletic club fraud accused to appear in court facing 10 counts

A 58-year-old woman is facing 10 counts of fraud for allegedly stealing funds from the Richards Bay Athletics Club

A woman accused of siphoning more than R260 000 from the Richards Bay Athletics Club will reappear in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court on 25 March.

Anna Hardwick (58) is facing 10 counts of fraud for stealing funds from the club – of which she was a member – between 2018 and 2022.

In May 2022, when a new chairperson was elected at the club, financial statements were requested but did not appear.

Hardwick is alleged to have made excuses to supply them, but resigned from the club a few months later.

Thereafter, financial inaccuracies were discovered.

It is believed the accused had submitted falsified invoices for payment for goods and services.

It’s also alleged that the accounts were not those of listed suppliers, but rather her own.

The matter is being investigated by the Provincial Commercial Crimes Investigation Unit, headed by Lieutenant Colonel VC Pillay based in Richards Bay.
