Zululand braces for more rain

SA Weather Service issues level 4 warning for disruptive rain in Zululand region

PERSISTENT rainfall is expected over parts of KZN, including the Zululand region tomorrow (Saturday).

The SA Weather Service (SAWS) issued a level 4 warning for disruptive rain, and is in place until 9pm on Saturday.

The warning comes as much of KwaZulu-Natal mops up after Thursday night’s heavy rainfall which led to flooding in places.

Affected areas include Big Five Hlabisa, Hluhluwe, Mthonjaneni, Mtubatuba, uMhlathuze and uMlalazi.

Anticipated weather conditions are scattered showers and rain.

Potential impacts are flooding of roads, bridges and settlements; damage to infrastructure and mud-based homes; major disruption to traffic flow, and poor driving conditions.

“If possible, stay indoors and off the roads. Avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankles,” warned SAWS.

“If trapped in a vehicle during a flood, abandon it and climb to higher ground. In buildings, move valuables to a safe place above the expected flood level, and in rural areas move livestock to higher ground,” said the weather service.
