WATCH: ‘Deathtrap’ R34 road claims life of biker

An ambulance en route to an accident scene suffered a blown tyre and damaged rim on the pothole-riddled R34 road near Empangeni

The  dangerous state of the R34 towards Heatonville has reached tragic proportions, claiming a life on Monday evening.

Sadly, while a biker lay in the middle of the road with life-threatening injuries, the ambulance en route to assist him was delayed after suffering a blown tyre and damaged rim on the pothole-riddled route.

Mounties EMS owner Joe Kruger said the paramedic was forced to choose between a pothole and a head-on collision.

The pothole caused a burst tyre and destroyed the rim, delaying critical medical attention…
