Member of Tembe Royal Family dies in head-on collision on N2 near Tugela River

FRIDAY saw several fatalities in horrific accidents on the N2 and N3 freeways, including one between the Tugela River and Dokodweni toll plaza in which Prince Mxolisi Siboniso Tembe (41) from the Tembe Royal Family perished.

The head-on collision occurred just before 7pm, with Tembe and his friend Sihle Mthembu reportedly died instantly.

IPSS Medical Rescue came across the scene while responding to the scene of a single-vehicle accident near Dokodweni in which one person sustained minor injuries, while three suffered serious injuries.

The Mandeni Fire Department and IPSS Search & Rescue extricated the bodies from the wreckage, while the injured were stabilised on scene by IPSS paramedics.

“Our highly efficient team from RTI responded to many crashes on Friday linked to the heavy rainfall,” said Transport MEC Siboniso Duma.

“At the time of the accident, Prince Tembe was travelling home to uMkhanyakude District Municipality.”

Tembe is survived by his fiancé, two sisters and a younger brother.
