Call for unity to eradicate GBV

Minister of higher education addresses gender-based violence and femicide (GBV-F) at University of Zululand event

MEN and women are called to unite and stand for justice to put an end to gender-based violence and femicide (GBV-F).

This clarion call was made by Deputy Minister of the Department of Higher Education and Training, Dr Mimmy Gondwe during an outreach event on GBV-F and gender transformation at Unizulu on Friday.

This comes after a recent study revealed that more than 33% of all women aged 18 years and older have experienced physical violence in their lifetime.

Nationally, 40 000 GBV cases were reported between July and September 2023, with 10% of all reported rape cases involving young women in higher education settings.
