Nine people tragically lost their lives in Sunday's horrific crash on the N2 near Empangeni

The death toll of Sunday’s horror accident on the N2 near the John Ross Highway Bridge in Empangeni has risen to nine.

The latest victim succumbed to injuries on Monday at the Ngwelezana Hospital, as confirmed by Mtubatuba Ward Cllr Mkhawuleni Zulu.

Reports indicate that a bakkie, transporting 24 passengers from Gobandlovu to Mtubatuba collided with a heavy-duty tow truck, resulting in the immediate death of eight passengers.

A further 16 people suffered serious injuries.

Mtubatuba Mayor, Mxolisi Mthethwa, spent Monday visiting the bereaved families from Dukuduku and Khula Village.
