Load-shedding continues until 10pm

Despite improvement in unplanned outages, Eskom says power system remains constrained with load-shedding to continue this (Thursday) evening

Stage 2 load-shedding is set to continue today (Thursday) from 4pm until 10pm.

Eskom said this measure remains necessary to manage generation capacity and to ensure a stable electricity supply during periods of high demand on working days.

“We recognise the inconvenience this causes and remain committed to ensuring a reliable electricity supply.

“While there has been a slight improvement in unplanned outages, the power system remains constrained,” the power utility stated.

“Eskom will continue to monitor the power system and provide updates should any changes arise.”

Load-shedding was implemented on Tuesday and was set to continue during evening peaks until this (Thursday) evening.

Eskom group chief executive Dan Marokane said, despite current pressures, the system is in a significantly stronger position than in past winters.

“In the past financial year, 96% of our generating capacity was available, compared to just 9% in the previous year. We also continue to expand capacity.

“Three major Eskom projects are on track to bring an additional 2 500MW onto the grid — a crucial milestone toward full recovery, with commitment from our private sector partners to deliver on their commitments,” said Marokane.
