City of uMhlathuze damage case postponed

The case against five EFF members has been postponed at the Richards Bay Magistrate's Court

The five EFF members charged with public violence, malicious damage to property, and assault grievous bodily harm (GBH) appeared briefly in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Out on R5 000 bail each, accused Mongezi Twala, Sabela Khubisa, Simphiwe Ndlela, Simo Gumede and Vusimuzi Cele were charged in January and face three counts involving malicious damage to City of uMhlathuze property in excess of R300 000, inciting public violence, and the assault GBH of a security guard stemming from mass protest action.

The matter was postponed to 8 July for regional court submissions and for the State to consult with the complainant in the matter.
