Suspects in IFP MP’s murder appear in court
Two men suspected to be linked to the killing of IFP MP face court as police continue their investigation.
Two suspects linked to the murder of the IFP MP Khethamabala Sithole, and the attempted murder of two more, appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Sithole (68) was shot dead on Saturday, 31 May at a hostel in Katlehong during an official IFP event.
He was standing alongside other IFP leaders outside a marquee when the gunmen fired, leaving Sithole dead and two others wounded.
Both suspects were remanded in police custody pending further investigation, and will return to court on Thursday next week for a formal bail application.
IFP national spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa commended the police and task team for the swift progress made.
“We are encouraged by the announcement from the Office of the Provincial Commissioner in Gauteng regarding the breakthrough in this case, and we continue to place our trust in the justice system to ensure all involved – not just the two suspects arrested – are brought to book.
“We further urge the SAPS to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the full truth behind this assassination,” he said.
