2 suspects arrested for possession of stolen vehicle

Stolen Durban vehicle tracked and intercepted by police in KwaDukuza, suspects arrested

KWADUKUZA SAPS along with Ilembe District E2 partners arrested a man (25) and a woman (35) for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle in the KwaDukuza Policing Precinct on Wednesday.

Ilembe Cluster SAPS spokesperson Captain Alex Thomson said the police diligently traced a vehicle that was profiled and flagged as stolen after it was following a G4S truck on the R74 in the KwaDukuza area.

“The vehicle was reported stolen at the Durban Central Police Station. Although reports stated that the vehicle had been recovered, the police became suspicious when they came across the same vehicle with the number plate matching the stolen vehicle in the CBD, later that afternoon.
“Police immediately intercepted and inspected the vehicle. The circulation on the vehicle confirmed that the VIN did not match the one registered to the vehicle, and that the plates were fake licence plates. The VIN matched a vehicle that had been taken in an Umbilo SAPS case, which had been stolen in May.

“Police arrested both occupants of the vehicle. Both suspects were charged with Section 36 – possession of an item suspected to be stolen. Both suspects have appeared in KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court and have been remanded in custody for further investigation,” said Thomson.
