Man arrested for illegal possession of AK47

Suspect nabbed for possession of two AK47 assault rifles

A 49-year-old man was on Tuesday night arrested for possession of two AK47 assault rifles.

The suspect was arrested at his home in Adams Mission in the KwaMakhutha policing area outside Durban by members of the Economic Infrastructure Task Team (EITT).

KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said these officers were working with eThekwini Metro investigators.

“They embarked on an intelligence-driven operation, following up on an intelligence report about a man who was suspected of having firearms,” he said.

“Police pounced on the suspect at his home and he was found in possession of a pistol. A further search of his house led to the recovery of two AK47 rifles and several rounds of ammunition of different calibre of firearms.

“The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to verify if they can be linked to any crime scenes in the province or elsewhere in the country. The suspect will appear in court soon,” said Netshiunda.
