WATCH: Sanca marches against substance abuse in eSikhaleni

Sanca Zululand highlights scourge of alcohol and drug abuse across communities in King Cetshwayo District

In regions marked by instability, organised criminal networks are expanding drug production and trafficking at an unprecedented rate.

This is according to the United Nations, which recognised the growing concern and took a decisive step by designating 26 June as International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

In commemoration of this day, Sanca Zululand held a march in eSikhaleni to address alcoholism and drug dependence through the provision of specialised, accessible, and affordable development, prevention, and treatment services.

Substance abuse continues to plague communities, especially the youth, often resulting in disastrous consequences.

According to Sanca, treatment and preventative programmes are effective ways of changing behaviour and attitudes, as well as raising awareness about societal trends.

Sanca Zululand director Shireen Sahadev says the scourge of alcohol and drug abuse is a significant problem across communities in King Cetshwayo District; however, they remain resolute in their fight, supported by all local drug action committee structures, the Department of Social Development and the general public.
